about

Emotionally, this album represents for me a happy nostalgia. I grew up in Chile in the 90’s and as many kids of my generation, one of my best friends was TV. I learned so many things from Japanese animation, I laughed at the Spanish rendition of North American infomercials and we played nintendo 64, eating way too much cereals. I also went outside, biked, played soccer, but many of my memories have to do with Dragon Ball, Zelda, chilean pop culture, late 90’s nickelodeon and Cartoon Network stuff, you know. I had the chance to have a happy childhood, and this album is sort of an hommage to everyone and everything that made that possible.

While practicing my keyboard and finger drumming skills, I decided I would make a completely manual album, in the sense that every beat, bass, synth, guitar, sample, was to be played manually, without quantization, without being corrected. If I fucked up, I had to record again, like in the old times. I did the same with the fx, which where recorded manually using knobs and faders. Another rule of the game was to use only instruments I created from samples. So every instrument, besides the drums, was created using samples, mostly flutes, violins, xylophones, vocal and analog synth samples. I chose not to use digital synths, not because I don’t like them, but because I wanted this album to feel particularly organic.
All these creative constriction made the album bumpy, off tune and off beat at times, but because of that, I feel that it’s the first album where my true personality as an instrumental composer shines through. It was an introspective process, because it was mostly made during the COVID-19 lockdown, but also because I could observe how difficult it was for me not to correct, not to want to clean, to tighten up the music. This showed me a reflection of perfectionism, which is good, but that can also come from a lack of confidence and of appreciation for our own authenticity, which, inherently, is imperfect.

I decided I would play, as when I was a kid, I wouldn’t strive for perfection, but for fun and authenticity. I hope you enjoy listening this album as much as I enjoyed playing it

An album too chill with. Read it, draw it, smoke it, drink it, dance it. It’s made for all of that and much more! [infomercial voice]
